Speech Therapy Services

Providing kid-focused, play-based, and sensory-inclusive private speech therapy for toddlers and kids in Madisonville, KY.

We will begin with an evaluation. Evaluations help us see the full picture of your child’s skills, challenges and needs, and we can also learn about what motivates your child. Evaluations typically include:

  • Parent interview

  • Observation of your child playing or doing an activity

  • Formal testing (if appropriate)

After the evaluation, we will share the results with you, and together, we will develop a plan for therapy.

Evaluations

Our speech therapists make therapy fun! Speech therapy for kids is most effective when learning is fun. That is why we allow your child to choose which room they want to work in and what toys they play with. At Bluegrass Kids, we love pretend play, sensory play, and games!

No matter your child’s needs, every therapy session will be personalized to their goals and include activities that they enjoy. Your speech therapist will also send home tips on how to help your child practice their new skills between sessions.

Our Approach to Therapy

Our Specialties

Child participating in play-based speech therapy

Speech Sound Disorders

Our goal is to help your child develop age-appropriate and functional speech so they can use clear speech to communicate effectively and without frustration!

The approach we use to teach your child new sounds depends on your child's strengths, and therapy might look different every time. We might use picture cues, hand signs, or videos during play. After every session, you are provided a "homework" page on how to produce your child's sound, how we "cue" it, and a word list to help your child practice their new skills.

Child with developmental delays playing during language therapy

Language Delays & Disorders

Our goal is to help your child develop communication skills to understand what is being said and to effectively communicate with others!

What we work on in therapy and what approaches the therapist uses will look different for each child and each skill. We might use our spoken words, an AAC device (an iPad or "talker" with buttons that speak), sign language, picture communication, or even movie scripts to develop communication during play. We prioritize sensory play and recognize play looks different for every kid.

We also provide parent/caregiver education tips and support weekly.

Child who stutters working on her fluency in speech therapy

Fluency & Stuttering

Speech therapy for stuttering will help your child communicate smoothly and without frustration!

We focus on building self-confidence, identifying times when our speech might be "bumpy", and using individualized strategies to increase "smooth" speech.

For younger kids, we work with parents on how to support smooth speech at home. And for older kids, we will work on self-advocacy skills.

Children working on social skills and making friends during speech therapy

Social Skills

Therapy for social skills will help your child learn skills to communicate and play appropriately with others so they can develop relationships and maintain friendships!

Social skills therapy looks different for every age child. For younger children, we focus on play and sharing experiences with parents and caregivers. For older children, we may work on how to play with peers, conversational skills, how to navigate conflict, etc. Therapy will always focus on your child’s needs and what is developmentally appropriate.
